Timing your trip around the wind makes a big difference in Hurghada. Here is a month-by-month guide to wind, water and crowds so you can plan the perfect Red Sea kite trip.
What is the wind like month by month?
| Season | Typical wind | Water | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apr–Sep | Strong & consistent | Warm | All levels, freestyle, big air |
| Oct–Nov | Moderate | Mild | Lessons, intermediate riding |
| Dec–Mar | Lighter, variable | Cooler (wetsuit) | Lessons, lightwind/foil |

When is the best time for beginners?
The shoulder months (Oct–Nov, Mar) offer steady but not overpowering wind — ideal for first lessons. See our Hurghada wind & season guide.
When is best for freestyle and big air?
Peak summer (Jun–Aug) brings the strongest, most reliable thermal wind — the choice for advanced riders chasing jumps and freestyle.
How warm is the water?
Warm and boardshorts-friendly from late spring to autumn; a shorty or 3/2 wetsuit is comfortable in Dec–Feb.
When should you book lessons?
Peak-wind dates fill fast. Lock in your spot early with Sultan Kite School.
How the seasons feel on the water
April to September is usually the strongest window for classic Red Sea kitesurfing: warmer air, warmer water, and more frequent windy days. This is the period most riders choose if they want the highest chance of planing, progressing, and riding several days in a row. It can also be busier, so lessons and rental should be booked early.
October to March can still be excellent, especially for beginners who prefer softer conditions and less heat. The wind may be lighter or less predictable, so flexible lesson days help. A good school will not force a bad session; it will move the course around the forecast and choose the safest kite size for the day.
Best months by rider type
| Rider type | Best window | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First-time beginner | March-June, September-November | Comfortable weather and manageable wind |
| Freeride progression | April-September | More powered sessions and longer riding days |
| Family holiday | March-May, October-November | Less extreme heat and easier non-kiting days |
| Safari rider | Spring to autumn | Better chance of multi-day wind windows |
How to use the forecast
Do not look only at one wind number. Check direction, gusts, tide or lagoon depth where relevant, and whether the school confirms the forecast locally. In Hurghada, a forecast that looks marginal online can still be rideable in the right spot, while a strong day may be too much for a new beginner. This is why local coaching matters more than a screenshot from a wind app.
If you are choosing dates now, pick the month for the kind of trip you want, then ask Sultan Kite School which lesson package fits that season. The school can tell you whether to plan morning sessions, afternoon sessions, or extra buffer days.
Build flexibility into your kite holiday
The smartest Hurghada trips include at least one or two flexible days. Wind is reliable compared with many destinations, but it is still weather, not a machine. If you book lessons on consecutive days with no buffer, one light-wind morning can make the course feel rushed. If you leave space, the school can move a session, extend a good windy day, or switch from lessons to rental practice when your level improves.
For families and mixed groups, plan non-kiting activities on the lighter days and keep the windiest forecast windows for water time. This keeps the trip enjoyable for everyone instead of turning every forecast check into stress. Ask Sultan Kite School for local timing advice a few days before arrival, then confirm again once you are in Hurghada.
